Make a frog party blower for your kids’ next birthday, new year’s or spring craft using simple materials at home!

My boys are into every bug and animal out there, so I thought it would be a fun idea to make something at home to keep them busy during our structured craft time.

I’m always on the lookout for fun and festive crafts and activities for toddlers — whether it’s for holidays or birthday parties.

And with the new year around the corner, I knew they needed a craft that would help them burn off energy and ring in the new year before mommy and daddy do!

What better way to release that energy than to let the party animal in them out for some fun!

I started working on a quick DIY party blower idea and then adapted it to a party animal craft I found from Kix to complete my DIY New Year’s craft.

Materials

Paper plate

Paint

Pom poms

Straw

2″x6″ paper

Scotch Tape

Tissue Paper

Let your kids paint one side of the paper plate red or a pinkish color (for the party animal’s mouth).

Set aside to dry for an hour or two and gather materials to create the blower piece.

You can use a full-size straw or cut in half for a better fit. Cut up some left over wrapping paper approximately 2-inches by 6-inches. Fold the sides so that they meet in the center to create a seam. Secure with scotch tape.

Now looking at the paper length-wise, fold one end in about 1/4 of an inch and secure with tape. Next, curl the paper in. (You can use a pencil or straw to curl in easier and temporarily clip it so it remains curled after blowing.) Attach the other end to the straw and also secure with tape. You can add some tissue paper to create a more festive look with fringe!

Have your kid paint the other side of the plate another bright color.

Once dry, use a hot glue gun to attach the pom pom eyes to the top of the plate. Make sure the eyes are at a 90 degree angle so they look straight out.

Poke a hole in the center of the plate to insert the blower and complete the craft!

Although it wasn’t intentional, our party animal ended up looking more like a party frog :). This is a great New Year’s craft to make with kids of all ages and can also be used to celebrate birthdays and other parties throughout the year!

We love following the Chinese New Year calendar to learn all about the animal of the year and what that animal symbolizes. It’s just so interesting to learn about what to expect in the coming year and also a fun way to get the kids involved. With 2015 being the year of the goat (or sheep/ram), what better way to celebrate with small kids than by creating a fun goat-themed craft?!

2015 is said to be a year of favorable changes compared to the past — so expect good things to come!

And because my 2.5 year old loves all-things animals, we decided to create a paper plate goat to ring in the new year.

Materials:

Paper plate

Paint

Construction paper

Glue

Have your child paint the paper plate grey while you gather the remaining supplies. My toddler loves painting so I always let him enjoy the process…despite how messy it can get. As long as you have washable paint on hand, it shouldn’t be too stressful.

Once dry, cut out the various features you will need for the goat’s face: eyes, eyebrows, mouth, nose, beard, hair and horns.

I used Elmer’s Glue to attach the features to the plate. And your done! The hardest part of this craft is probably cutting out all the shapes you’ll need, but it’s pretty basic, but makes such a cute goat to help your kids learn about animals and celebrate the new year.

If you’re feeling a bit more creative, you can add a colorful banner with the year or even add a stick to the plate and cut out holes around the eyes to make a goat “party mask”. Either way the kids will love creating and playing with the paper goat!
