It’s no secret that my toddler loves arts and crafts. It took us some time to get to this point, but these days he is up for almost anything. He loves exploring colors, textures and materials of all sorts. However, this usually means a mess of markers and paints all over his hands, face and clothes.
That’s why I was excited to try out Crayola’s Color Wonder Mess Free Airbrush with him as part of my Holiday Gift Guide.
The Color Wonder Airbrush set comes with the airbrush sprayer, six Color Wonder mini markers, three themed stencil sheets and 20 sheets of Color Wonder paper.
The airbrush sprays out a fine mist of clear ink from the mini markers made to only color the special Color Wonder paper. It’s a wonderful concept to let kids explore their creative side without making mommy stress out about the mess to clean up.
The stencil sheets include creatures from outer space, under the sea and in the safari – my toddler loves animals so the variety of animals and shapes the sheets included was a plus. However, you do have to punch out all the shapes in advance and discard so that your little ones don’t have access.
The stand that the airbrush comes with holds all 6 markers. It’s a convenient place to keep them organized when in use and makes long-term storage a breeze.
We were a little surprised with the noise of the sprayer which sounded a bit like a pump from an air mattress. But the noise wasn’t as noticeable once we focused on creating some art.
I tried to quickly show my 2.5 year old how to use the airbrush. Of course being the independent toddler he is, that didn’t last too long. He took the sprayer in hand and was eager to start “painting.”
It took a few tries to get the sprayer to work, so I re-read the directions that emphasized holding the nozzle straight down and not tilting to get it to work properly. We also had some trouble getting the lever to stay up once the marker was inserted. I’d recommend parents read the full directions and helpful tips before getting started.
After we got the hang of it, the artwork began. Our toddler loved pushing the button down and seeing his little masterpiece begin to take form. He couldn’t decide between which sea creature he liked best, so got a little carried away with the spraying. But I’m happy to report the product lived up to the Mess Free name – the only ink splattered was on the actual Color Wonder paper as intended.
Overall, we found the product to be a great alternative to messy painting and coloring, especially because little ones can feel a little more in control (with that spray button ;)!) and parents can be happy there will be a little less mess on the tables and furniture!
The Color Wonder Mess Free Airbrush has a MSRP of $24.99 but you can find it on Amazon on sale HERE (affiliate link) in time for Christmas!
