21 Delicious Thanksgiving Desserts for Kids

The holiday season is finally upon us! And first up is Thanksgiving: every food-lover’s dream holiday. It’s one of my family’s favorite. A time to give thanks for all we have, spend time together, and enjoy some delicious food.

But it’s not just a one-day event. The whole month is about teaching appreciation and thankfulness to our kids and of course eating lots of yummy desserts! So finding kid-friendly Thanksgiving desserts is always a must for moms of little ones — sure they’ll eat most sweets, but desserts that are tasty and fun to decorate are even better. Plus, the kids especially love it because oftentimes they can be involved in the baking.

As a sweet-lover myself, Thanksgiving dessert ideas are always on my mind. That’s why today I’ve gathered up some of the cutest recipes sure to please your toughest critics.

When my kids begged me to make some turkey treats, of course I went on a search for the perfect recipe. What I ended up finding is that there are lots of perfect Thanksgiving desserts for kids! I can get quite lost on Pinterest and spent a good amount of time trying to find the perfect recipe for them.

I did have to end up choosing just one, but I thought I would share my findings with you! I haven’t’ tried them all, but I thought I would give you the chance to try for yourself. There’s a great variety of treats here for you – everything from cookies to brownies to even some mini personal pies! You’re sure to find a recipe or two that you’re kids will just love. But don’t take my word for it, check out the list below and get baking!

Turkey Brownies: Adorably Easy Thanksgiving Dessert

Every year as the holidays approach, I always seem to have a plethora of dessert recipe ideas in mind. But once the big day is just a hours away, I realize it’s better to keep things simple…because with little ones running around there just isn’t enough time for hours of baking.

And that’s exactly what we focused on last Thanksgiving. Simple and easy dessert recipes.

Since brownies seem to be a big hit in our family (we’ve made them for football season, 4th of July, Halloween, Christmas!) I decided Thanksgiving brownies would be perfect! To make them even cuter for the kids, I went with turkey brownies I spotted from Betty Crocker.

How to make easy turkey brownies

You’ll need:

Brownie mix
Candy corn
Candy eyes (Wilton brand is my favorite)
Mini (orange) M&M
Mini York Peppermint Patties
Melted chocolate/icing

Bake brownies according to directions. I picked up our favorite fudgey brownie mix from our grocery store on sale.

Once ready, gather all the candy you’ll need to make your turkey face. Be sure to have some melted chocolate or icing to adhere the candy to the brownie (I used icing since it was readily available). You can try a toothpick, but I found that didn’t work well for spreading the icing adequately, so used a combination of my fingertip and fork.

Make sure you start with the turkey’s face/peppermint patty so that the process goes faster. (Starting with the feathers adds a few more minutes and takes precision!)

Add your candy eyes by dotting icing on the back and using a small tweezer to help you position them as desired. Then half your m&m and attach as well.

Next grab 3 candy corns for each brownie piece to use as the turkey’s feathers. Carefully attach the candy corn pieces to the brownie with the icing and then lay the york peppermint on top. I found this to be the hardest part as you have to press down on each piece without breaking them. It may take a minute, but will complete your adorable dessert!

These were such a hit (with both the kids and adults alike) last year – I’m definitely planning on making them this year, as I’m a sure to be pressed for time with three little ones 4 and under!

Thanksgiving Craft: Turkey Place Cards for the Kids

I can’t believe Thanksgiving is next week! I’ve been looking forward to the official start of the holiday season for the longest time, but didn’t realize it would creep up on us so soon!

To make the holiday a little more festive and keep the little ones entertained at the table, I decided to make Thanksgiving place cards using the plethora of paper towel rolls I always seem to accumulate at home. I got the inspiration for the turkey fan feathers from another turkey craft I found online but used black construction paper and a white crayon to make the names pop a bit more at the table.

Material

Paper towel rolls
Construction paper (red, orange, brown, yellow, green and black)
Glue
Scissors
Googly Eyes
White Crayon
Stapler

Here’s what I did

First I cut the paper towel rolls into small pieces to work with little hands.

I used the construction paper to both draw and cut a turkey body, beak and wattle. After I attached the body to the roll, I then glued on the remaining parts and added googley eyes.

For the turkey feathers, I folded one piece of paper in half vertically and proceeded to fold into a fan. I did this three times in green, red and orange. I used a stapler to attach the three and place it inside the paper roll.

Finally, I cut out small rectangles and wrote out names in white crayon for a nice contrast.

I love how they turned out and can’t wait to see what the little ones think!!!

Thanksgiving Gratitude Craft: Extra Gum Container Thank You Notes

This time of year is one of our favorites for obvious reasons: the holidays! It offers an opportunity to get together with family and friends to share food and gifts, but more importantly, a chance to reconnect and give extra thanks.

There are so many people to be thankful for…but it’s usually those whom we interact with on a daily basis we sometimes forget to stop and give thanks to for all they do.

When I got the chance to participate in this Extra Gum campaign, I knew it was the reminder I needed to reach out with a simple “thank you” to my husband. He works so hard to provide for our family, so I wanted to give back and show the kids how to give thanks to daddy with a fun gratitude craft.

Because he has to travel every now and then for his job, I wanted to make something special for him to take along as a reminder of this gratitude…from the kids and I. So I thought, what better gift than a few thank you notes he could keep with him while away…as a reminder of our appreciation. That’s where the Turkey Gum Cup craft came to mind.

Here’s what I used to create this gift of thanks:

Craft foam sheets – 3 sheets (red, brown, green)
Foam cup
Hot glue
Scissors
Pen
Posted notes
Straw
3 packs of Extra Gum

Here’s what we did:

I drew a round and oval shape to make a turkey body by freehand on the brown foam. (I was pleasantly surprised to find the smooth surface made it easy to draw on too!)
Next, I used a hot glue gun to attach the body to a foam cup I purchased at Michael’s.
As that dried, I cut out feathers to attach to the back of the cup. I drew one feather by hand and then traced that one so all the others would match.
I glued the feathers to the cup and added googly eyes, a beak and wattle to complete the turkey.
I used posted notes to write our thank you messages on. These worked well because they were just the right size to wrap over individual gum pieces and could be closed with the adhesive end.
My posted notes focused on the big and little things my kids and I were thankful for and appreciate from daddy.
I attached a pack of Extra Gum to a straw and filled the cup with gum pieces – interspersed with personal thank you messages my kids helped me think of — even the smallest things are good to appreciate!This is a great way to teach kids about being thankful and showing appreciation for loved ones – plus the gum stash is pretty awesome too :)!
