Today I’m sharing a super cute fish Valentine perfect for those last-minute class exchanges…just in case the winter weather had you trapped indoors all weekend or if the closest store is actually sold out, like in our case!

It’s funny how I’ve seen Valentines cards and goodies all over the place for months, but of course the day before Valentine’s day, when you actually decide to pick up a few things, there’s nothing in sight.

That’s when the DIY and printable Valentine ideas come in super handy.

With my preschooler particularly into animals of every kind, I knew this fish card would be a fun Valentine to create. It also makes a great gender-neutral card to give out — because let’s face it, most of the Valentine’s out there seem to be geared towards sweethearts and crushes…not best buds or friends-only type cards.

“I’m so glad we swim in the same school” is a fun play on school card, kids can share with all their buddies – boy or girl!

Last year was our first go at it with my preschooler, where we decided to try our DIY version with flower lollipops — a sweet treat indeed. They were so much fun to make especially as a last-minute Valentine idea.

This year, with Valentine’s Day around the corner, I decided to share some of my favorite Valentines ideas you can make at home. All you need is a printer and some quality paper — adding a snack or treat is optional, but a fun way to personalize the Valentine gift.

I’m always on the hunt for the easiest (but cutest) ways to celebrate holidays with my kids. They are still very young, so I know easier is always the best choice for us, especially when it comes to crafts or activities we do together.

Valentine’s day is no exception. Our heart crafts, bug crafts and love potion activities tend to be fun but simple too – it’s what works for us!

Finding Dory was a hit last year, so we knew it would be a great character to incorporate into our Vday activities. With these printable Dory Valentines you are ready to go in no time — they make a great last-minute Valentine idea too!Simply grab a favorite snack or candy and pack in a clear plastic bag like this one — we snipped off the ziplock part and wrapped with a red ribbon. Punch a hole at the top of the printable to attach.

Click on the link below to download the printable – which includes 6 Valentines to a sheet if you’re using a 8.75×11.25 sheet of paper. We recommend using white cardstock for a sturdier finish since regular paper will appear a bit flimsy. We love this brand for printing.

My toddler loves any craft involving paints. And I love his enthusiasm for “hanpaint” as he calls it :)! Of course with painting and little ones things are bound to get messy…but these moments won’t last forever. I have to indulge him whenever I can.

Kid-made Fingerprint Frame Instructions

For this kid’s craft, you will only need two ingredients: washable paints and a picture frame. We bought a wooden one at Michaels for $1, but Amazon has some nice frames in natural wood finishes as well!

Before getting started, I used some acrylic pearl white paint to create a nice foundation. Once dry, I gathered the washable paints and let my toddler at it.

Help position their fingers and thumbs to make heart shapes — you’ll notice some prints were larger than others as we had to experiment a bit.

Once complete, I painted on the words “Love” to make the frame extra special.

Let dry overnight and add a cute photo :)!

Makes a great keepsake and gift for a family member!

I love, love making Valentine’s Crafts with my kids. From love bugs and cupid arrows to lollipops and love potions — there’s just something so exciting about creating love-themed crafts and reading about them with little ones.

But I’d be lying if I said it is always easy. In fact, sometimes it can be down right stressful when trying to create a beautiful craft without your toddler tearing it apart before completion.

That’s one of the reasons why I love simple handprint crafts — the easier the craft, the better.

So this time I thought it would be fitting to do a handprint craft and printable kids can give to mom, dad or grandparents.

Handprint Valentine + Printable Instructions

For this craft, all you need is washable red paint, a heart sticker this size and paper — just 3 supplies (besides a willing hand).

1. Paint your child’s hand red — make sure to cover it with enough paint so that you can get a good handprint.
2. Use the printable below as your canvas (if you can print on card stock or sturdy paper, the better the Valentine print).Download Valentine Printable Here.
3. Place a heart sticker in the center of the paper (where the palm will sit) and place your child’s hand over it. We used a paper plate here because it was easily accessible and sturdy, but you can print directly on your Valentine printable.

Once dry peel away the sticker to reveal the heart.

(If you used a plate like us or card stock, simply cut round the print and glue to your canvas.)

You can even personalize with a little note for your loved ones.

I know Valentine’s Day is still over a month away, but the day will be here before we know it. Sure you can always run to the store and pick up some ready-to-go Valentines, but it’s so much more fun and personable to create your own at home with the kids.

I saw the prettiest heart-shaped pops from Pottery Barn and knew we had to create our own version.

I figured we could decorate the pops as different types of flowers for a super cute Valentine!

How to Make a Flower Lollipop

Materials

• Flat lollipops
• Colored card stock
• Glue
• Scissors
• Pen

To start, simply gather an assortment of colored lollipops to decorate as flowers. The more variety of colors, the cuter the array of flowers  you can create.

Next, draw out various flower shapes. We made tulips, daisies and lillies by freehand. If you have cookie cutters, even easier!

If your child is of cutting age have them help cut out the various patterns — if not, you can do this yourself. You can even trace your flowers and use several pieces of paper at once to cut in bulk. Saves time if you need Valentines for the whole class.

Then cut out green stems to intertwine onto the lollipop stick. We used some Elmer’s glue to attach the flower and stem to the lolly.

Personalize your Valentine on the back or leave as is.

As I mentioned, these Valentine flower lollipops are as easy as it gets and make a fun way to transform a simple treat.

Oh wait there is ;)! It’s called a delicious Melt Your Heart Valentine’s Popcorn recipe that combines both sweet and salty flavors for a romantically delicious treat you can both enjoy while you snuggle up to view your favorite movie.

Of course kids will LOVE this too! Just be sure they don’t hog the whole bowl :).

Valentine’s Day Popcorn Recipe

To make this easy snack you’ll need 3 ingredients only:

• Freshly popped popcorn
• Conversation Hearts
• Wilton Candy Melts (I used this cute pastel flavor)

1. First, you’ll want to microwave your favorite popcorn flavor and prepare to your liking. (PopSecret is my go-to choice!)

2. Next, gather about 1 cup of chocolate candy melts and microwave for about 1 minute – stopping 30 seconds into the clock to give a good stir and break up the candy.

3. Lay out your popcorn in a pan to give an even coat of chocolate. Then you can combine the popcorn mixture into a large bowl and use a spoon to further distribute the chocolate.

4. Top with your favorite sweets – I love conversation hearts but you can add sprinkles if you enjoy those too!

The result is a delicious sweet and salty popcorn mixture. So easy and so yummy!

You can even pass the bowl and share with the kids if you’re feeling extra generous ;).

Materials

• Card stock
• Googly eye
• Glitter
• Glue

To make this easy Valentine, all you need to do is cut out a rectangle and heart-shape from card stock. I used a royal blue color for the card since this would be for my son.

Glue a large googly eye and the heart to the card. Draw the letter “u” with some glue and cover with glitter to spell “Eye Heart U.”

That’s it. I love this craft because it takes about 2 minutes to make (and that includes gathering the materials and cutting ;)!). It’s such a fun and easy way for your little ones to learn how to say “I love you.”

You can also add your kid’s favorite treat to make it extra special!
