Red velvet cake is one of the most decadent and mouth-watering cakes you can treat yourself to. With it’s red color and chocolatey delicious taste, it is the perfect dessert to enjoy with your loved ones for Valentine’s Day!
And what better way to top it off, than with a cream cheese frosting and M&M’s® Red Velvet! These M&M’s® are exactly what they sound like: red velvet milk chocolate M&M’s®! They are a limited edition candy that you can find as Valentine’s Day approaches.
I picked up a package of the M&M’s® in the holiday candy section of Walmart to get started on my Valentine’s dessert.
I also decided to pick up a box of an extra moist red velvet cake that included the perfect cheesecake topping I had in mind. As a busy mom, I always prefer semi-homemade treats that make life easier.
The first step was to gather all the essential ingredients to combine. I used 2 eggs, 1/4 cup of extra virgin olive oil and 2/3 cup of water and added them to the red velvet powder.
Once mixed, you’ll pour the batter into a cake pan and bake for 20 minutes at 350 F.
After cake has cooled, you can go ahead cutting your heart bites. I used a plastic cookie cutter to carve out heart shapes, along with a few star-circle shapes for even more yumminess.
To make the icing, I combined the pre-packaged cream cheese powder and added a couple tablespoons of water plus 8 teaspoons of melted butter. Use an electric mixer for about 1 minute for a fluffy texture.
I applied the icing to the heart bites using a plastic icing piping bag — this made it easier than decorating with an icing spatula which doesn’t always keep the soft velvet cake intact.I completed my Red Velvet Cake bites with M&M’s® Red Velvet drizzled with crushed M&M’s® to make for a truly decadent and savory Valentine’s treat you will love!!
These heart bites were AMAZING and the hardest part (besides the clean-up) was stopping myself from devouring every single one of them as I prepared them!!
Of course I made sure not to eat everything in order to share the deliciousness with my loves! 🙂
