It’s no secret that I’ve struggled with a picky-eater who would rather eat cookies and crackers for meals instead of anything else on the menu. So I’ve had to dig deep to find some creative ways to make my toddler eat like he should. This weekend I decided to play up frozen waffles with some kid-friendly fruit to achieve this goal.
First step, was to make a quick stop to Shop Rite for all the essential ingredients: bananas, strawberries, blueberries, whipped cream and waffles!
When I found the Aunt Jemima Frozen Waffles I was looking for, I was excited to see the nice sale price along with the #4morewaffles the package included! The new packages are sealed for freshness which was just what I needed to create a delicious toddler breakfast!
The basic idea I had in mind for a delicious waffle recipe was simple: add fruit in a creative way so that my picky-eater would be so intrigued with the food he couldn’t resist! So I cut up an assortment of fruit to give my guy some options.
I had so many ideas for fun waffle characters I didn’t know where to start. I decided I would create two breakfast ideas over two days and let my toddler choose his favorite.
My first idea was a waffle butterfly. I sliced a banana in half (vertically) and used that for the main body. Next, I toasted two waffles, cut in half and covered with fruit slices. These would be the butterfly’s “wings”.
I drizzled some syrup on the creation and let my toddler taste it.
From the look on his face, I knew he approved!
I tried the same technique the next day, but this time decided to add a Halloween-twist: bat waffles!
I placed one toasted waffle in the center of a plate topped with banana-blueberry eyes and strawberry fangs. Then I simply used a second waffle slice to carve out bat ears and wings and topped them with whipped cream to add some more tasty fun! Everything was drizzled in a (little) syrup :).
He was definitely a little bit more excited when he saw this one!
I was so glad my little one enjoyed this yummy, healthy breakfast idea!

What other fun kid-friendly shapes would you make with frozen waffles? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Ana, these are the CUTEST things ever. I’m going straight to Pinterest to add them to my “future kids” board. I don’t have kids yet, but I used to nanny and loved making fun stuff for them to eat. Kids have the wildest imaginations and I think when you create stuff like this, it stimulates their brain in a way that stays with them for life.
